Kathak dancers from city to inaugurate an international business conclave
Enhancing the city’s identity as a cauldron of cultures, a team of local Kathak dancers is to perform at the inauguration of the India-ASEAN Business Fair (IABF) and business conclave on Tuesday. About 10 ASEAN countries will participate in this international conference hosted at New Delhi which aims to bring together business leaders and practitioners.
The 10-member team has known local Kathak dancers Prashant Shah, Sanjukta Sinha, Bharti Dani, Ashna Shah, Sachi Trivedi, Kalrav Dave, Nilima Thakural, Rushangi Thakural, Nandini Mehta and Vaishali Trivedi. Their performances are choreographed by renowned Kathak exponent Kumudini Lakhia, founder of Kadamb school and music is by Atul Desai.
“The team of 10 dancers from Ahmedabad will represent the country at the international summit,” said Lakhia. The team’s first 15-minute performance to inaugurate the conference is developed on the theme of friendship and peace. The contemporary Kathak costumes of Anarkali design will be serene white in colour to build up the ambience of peace. “This item is to spread the message of world peace through art,” said Lakhia.
The second 45-minute performance is titled ‘Atah Kim’ (what comes next). “This performance will have the story of the tradition of Kathak dance form and will highlight its core footwork practices including ‘tihai’, ‘tukda’ and ‘chakkar’,” says Lakhia. This item will showcase the true aesthetics of traditional Indian dance form to the world. It will be presented in bright costumes in various shades of crimson, maroon and scarlet.
