Till now, the Garba organisers had to rope in celebs to promote their Garbas; however it seems to be a reverse trend this year. As celebrities this year are expressing their willingness to be part of the popular Garba events in the state and city, perhaps, to connect with their fan club and promote their films!
Ajay Devgan and Sanjay Dutt are expected to visit andiya Entertainment Programme at Karnavati club on October 6. With this, Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis – who are coming to the city to promote Rockstar – are to make a special appearance at Karnavati club on October 2.
Manoj Chaudhari of Shanku’s said, “We are in talks with mega stars Ajay Devgan and Sanjay Dutt for their special appearance at the Garba and as of now they plan to attend the event on October 6.” With this, he added that many other celebs want to be a part of the Garba event. “We too are pleased to rope in mega stars to add glitz and glamour to the show. However, we forced to cut down some other celebrities who are in town during the Navratri to promote their films and have expressed their willingness to be part of the show,” he said.
Star cast of other films like Ayesha Takia, Ranvijay and Nagesh Kukunoor of Mod, Rajeev Khandelwal, Soha Ali Khan and Mrinalini Sharma of Soundtrack. Himesh Reshamiya of Damadamm will also be visiting the city in the coming days. Debutant actors Candice Boucher and Sachiin Joshi will be coming to the city by the end of the festival for their movie Azaan.
“We are still mulling whether to include Rajeev Khandelwal and Himesh Reshamiya for the Garba event,” said Chaudhari. Due to constraints in getting sponsorships, there are lesser big Garba events happening in the city this year and hence the events at premier clubs and posh housing societies are expecting huge crowds. In this case, calling a celeb becomes an additional responsibility that would make the organisers to deploy tighter vigil at the entry points to deter unwanted mass infiltration.
Dhairya Dandwala, one of the promoters and organiser of Friends Garba who have three events in the city this year on Retro theme Garba on 30 September, and old Sheri Garba on 4 – 5 October, said, “We are flooded with calls from celebs who are in town to promote their films and want to be the part of the Garba events, however, as how to deter crowds is the concern, we have not been able to invite them to become a part of the programme, however, their surprise visits cannot be ruled out.”
