Saptak’s Sankalp Saptaah Begins
Saptak, among India’sleading guardiansof the classical music heritage, has collaborated with Sangeet Sankalp — an organization of musicians with 109 branches across the country — to organize the 17th Sangeet Sankalp Saptaah. The event, a weeklong classical music programme,began on Sunday and will continue till September 16. The venue for the programme is Gajjar Hall,LawGarden.
Tuesday’s programme will start with the dhrupad duet of Sahitya Mallik and Sangeet Mallik. A vocalist from Pune, Anjali Singade-Rao, will perform on the third day. Vocalists from Chhapra, Prabhakar Kashyap and Divakar Kashyap, will perform with Prithviraj Mishra during thethirdsession on thesameday.
Well-known musicians who have emerged from the Sangeet Sankalp stagein the pastwill also be featured. Sandeep Joshi, secretary of Saptak, said that the programme began with a group tabla recital of students of the Saptak School of Music after which Hemant Bhatt presented a tabla solo. Ashwina Rangnekar, a vocalist from Bhopal, rendered Maru Bihag, a late-night raga.
In the third session of the first day, a film ‘Golden Age of Music’ — directed by Anjali Kirtane — was screened after which a recording of maestro Pandit Ramashray Jha and Pandit Nandan Mehta was played as the concluding item. On Monday, Drupad vocalist from Rajasthan, Sunita Amin, opened the evening.
The second session brought sitarist Siddharth Shankar Shukla to the stage.In the third session ,Jhanvi Phansalkar, a vocalist from Mumbai performed. During the concluding session of this weeklong programme, recordings of some of the greatest maestros from the vintage collection of Saptak Archives will be played.
