One of the most auspicious days for marriages – Vasant Pancham (January 13) is the day when Cheteshwar Pujara, 25, young star cricketer will tie a knot with Puja Pabari, an MBA girl from Mumbai whom his family has chosen for him.
Pujara’s is an arranged marriage – in which the elders of the family is from Jamjodhpur in Jamnagar district of Gujarat, has done an select and choose the bride for the groom – a practice which is not that common in today’s times. However, in Pujara’s case both he and his father are happy to follow this traditional practice.

“I am happy that my son respects the family traditions and follows rituals with utmost sincerity. Cheteshwar’s marriage will be solemnised on February 13 at a party plot in Rajkot with Puja – to be daughter-in-law of the family whom we have selected,” Arvind Pujara, father of Cheteshwar said.
A series of initial family rituals will begin on February 12 with Ganesh sthapan pujan. Later, on February 13 detailed marriage ceremony including peculiar wedding customs that take place in a typically Lohana wedding are on card. The peculiar customs include ritual in which bride is made to play coins at the chohri and maa-maat ceremony. The reception is scheduled on February 14.
Arvind Pujara informed that the entire cricket team including some associates including Rahul Dravid, Kumble and more will be present at the wedding and the reception. “We have invited chief minister Narendra Modi as well. We plan to include a small circle of near most family members and friends at the ceremonies,” said Arvindji.
While speculations are still on about the costumes of the bride and the groom their big day, sources informed that Cheteshwar’s traditional costume has been designed on exclusive specifications prescribed by him, while bride will be seen in a traditional Paanetar sari.
