Abha Shah*, 35, a therapist and the sole breadwinner in a family of four, leaves for work at 9 am after completing household chores. Her husband is physically challenged and a patient of depression and she also has to look after her five-year-old son and mother-in-law. Above all, she has no support system to fall back on at the end of the day. Smita Patel*, 42, a bank employee, manages a family of two adolescent daughters and a physically incapacitated husband. She also plays counsellor to her eldest daughter in her marital problems.
A recent survey by global information and analytics firm Nielsen on women in emerging markets reveals that Indian women feel they are the most stressed of all. An overwhelming 87% of those surveyed said they felt stressed most of the time, while 82% had no time to relax.
