…Says actor Arjun Kapoor who loves to eat and is in A’bad shooting for ‘2 States’ to Priya Adhyaru-Majithia
He has lived through a magical transformation from a grumpy 140-kg boy, who always preferred to stay indoors, into an actor with a good physique. The journey from fat to fit has earned him a confidence that is evident in his cool demeanour and raw style that sets him apart.
A 28-year-old, producer-director-turned-actor, Arjun Kapoor has won several accolades for his debutant role in Habib Faisal’s romance drama ‘Ishaqzaade’ and is already looked upon as the ‘superstar of tomorrow’. He is currently in the city shooting at IIMA, for Abhishek Verman’s ‘2 States’, an adaptation from Chetan Bhagat’s novel ‘2 States: The story of my marriage’.
“The best thing about Ahmedabad is its thaali. An authentic spread of vegetarian delicacies tasting sweet, sour, bland and spicy – its balance and its variety appeals to me. Whenever I visit Ahmedabad I have always cheated on my diet to gorge on this big, fat, Gujarati thaali,” said Kapoor while highlighting his interest for Amdavadi cuisines.
This time too he is following a strict diet regime as he sports a look of a slim-fit college going boy, ‘Krish’ for the movie. However, he quips, “I will certainly take some time out of my busy schedule, to relish a thaali.” With a penchant for fitness, Kapoor works out even while shooting till midnight. For him, his work-outs are therapeutic and he never likes to miss his gym time.
Kapoor is one of the few actors in Bollywood who have experimented with both their hairstyle and physique, according to the demand of the character he plays in his films. “Although for my first movie, ‘Ishaqzaade’, I flaunt a rough look with a fit body, for my next release in May, ‘Aurangzeb’, you will see me donning a masculine look.” In ‘Aurangzeb’, Kapoor plays a double role of both a villain (Ajay) and a hero (Vijay). “But Verman’s film demands the look of a college-going boy and so I have altered my work out patterns accordingly,” he said. Kapoor, who began as an assistant director and producer, is quite observant for details and he expects the same from himself while facing the camera. “My work has been widely appreciated. With just three movies on the floor, I have played protagonists as well as a villain,” Kapoor signs off.
