Noted directors Abbas-Mustan, actor John Abraham and heroine Jacqueline Fernandez were in city on Wednesday to promote the film releasing on Jan 25. They shared their views on Race 2 with Priya Adhyaru-Majithia.
Thrill of racing is the crux of this blockbuster. The first of the major film release of the year, Race 2 is an upcoming Bollywood action thriller sequel film having a power packed team of six stars to showcase. It is budgeted around 87 crores and is expected to make huge profits on box offices as has planned the release a day prior to National holiday on January 26.
The movie, directed by Abbas-Mustan is the sequel to the 2008 hit film, Race and the Race 2 star cast has Anil Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan reprising their roles as Robert D’Costa and Ranveer Singh from the previous film. While the new additions to the star cast are Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Jacqueline Fernandez and Ameesha Patel.
The expectations from Race 2 are humongous as after the success of Race (2008), Abbas-Mustan said that they would go ahead with a sequel only if we get a script in place which is even better than the original. And here they are again ready with the Race 2. Abbas said, “Race 2 is one level ahead than Race in all aspects, script wise, character wise, action wise and technique wise. It is expected to win hearts effortlessly as it has meticulous story to keep the viewers gripped till the end.”
And the timings of the release are smartly planned. Pushing the idea further to manoeuvre the Republic Day to their advantage, John Abraham said, “Race was an adult movie, while Race 2 is a light fun which can be watched with family and friends. Youth will love this movie. The movie will instantly strike a bond with the viewers due to the charismatic equation that the star cast shared during making of this movie. None of the heroes were indeed racing against each other, actually we are all racing together to win the hearts of the viewers.”
The screenplay is written by Shiraz Ahmed who also wrote Race.
The movie is largely shot in Turkey and has unveiled the natural scenic beauty of Istanbul, Austria, northern Cyprus and Adana.
Race 2 has been written and talked about widely as its production took about long span of almost one year and its casting had major alternations starting from Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor,
Sonakshi Sinha, Chitrangda Singh while finally roles went to Ameesha Patel and Jacqueline Fernandez. Commenting on this casting ordeal turning in her favour, Fernandez said, “I am thrilled to be part of this rocking team.”

Noted directors Abbas-Mastan who began their moving making career with Gujarati films are still eager to make Gujarati films. “Today less Gujarati language films appeal the youth as they are mostly made on old stories having rural settlings. However, to attract the youth to Gujarati films, we need modern touch and contemporary feel.”
The duo and John Abraham unanimously said that they are in search of a good and gripping story and would love to make a Gujarati film. “We also plan to do many film shootings in Gujarat as it is a progressive and enterprising state that welcomes new businesses,” said Mastan.
