Shahid Parvez rendered Charukeshi on Day 4 of Saptak
“Rendition of Charukeshi – raag of South-Indian tradition which Pt Ravi Shankerji popularised globally is my special offering to him for his unparallel contribution to the field of music,” said Ut Shahid Parvez, renowned sitar exponent belonging to Etawah Gharana who is in city to perform at Saptak.
Charukeshi is linked with moods of separation (virah) and romance (shrungar) and aptly conveys the mixed emotions of pleasure of listening to magical music that Panditji gave to the world and pathos of having lost him, said Shahid. “I am associated with Saptak since last 25 years. Ahmedabad is a dream spot to perform as one of the rarest 13-day long music festivals happens here,” he added.
Mudgal enthralled the audience
Padma Shri recipient Shubha Mudgal, vocalist especially known for her Khayal, Thumri, and Dadra renditions who performed in the second session of Day 3, said, “Panditji was a disciplinary artist whose contribution to Indian film music was unique. He resolutely anchored to classical music but allowed relatively few but remarkable associations with film music. He also did not allow his cross-cultural collaborations to influence the quintessence Indianness of his own creations.” Mudgal added that he has paved the way to maintain a fine balance while creating fusion music and “it is our duty to wisely carry forward his musical legacy.”
