Arvind Vegda joins hands with filmmaker Smita Thackeray for a spoof on farmers selling land to make movies. His debut music video album boasts of more than 2 lakh hits on YouTube already. Meet Arvind Vegda, the desi rock star who has become a sensation of sorts with the popular Gujarati number, ‘Bhai Bhai’.
Taking a step further, he is now making a foray into Bollywood. He is already working on what will be his first film. Vegda shot to fame with his album ‘Bhai Bhai’. Already, 5 lakh CDs of the album have been sold in Gujarat alone. The album became so popular that Vegda was roped in by the BJP for its 2012 election campaign. Talking about his Bollywood plans, Vegda revealed that film-maker Smitha Thackeray had recently approached him for making a movie.
“We are producing a comedy, ‘Karu Company Pvt Ltd’, which will have a strong social message. The story is a social satire on the recent fad of farmers selling off their plots for cash to make a movie. We plan to make a parody of this practice.”
Using his signature ‘Bhai Bhai’ tune, Vegda plans to act in the movie and communicate the message in his own style—satirical, conversational and funny, yet bold. “The scripting for the film is done and we are in the process of finalising the cast. We are in talks with various film-makers from Bollywood. However, the initial talks with Smita Thackeray seem to be yielding concrete results,” said Vegda.
The album is an entertaining cocktail of clips from comic films of Charlie Chaplin and funny commercials. In the 45-minute musical video, Vegda has flaunted grand costumes and presented peppy music and bold dance moves. “My album is a fusion of folk music traditions, easy and funny, yet bold, words with social messages, pop music, alluring dance moves and vibrant costumes. We used the latest technology and a professional movie camera for the video,” says Vegda.
