Hong Kong-Based Yogesh Shah Runs Multinational Business
Students and their parents who are wrecked by anxiety about academic performance can draw inspiration and hope from this NRG achiever who failed the SSC exam,but today is a successful entrepreneur and respected business leader.
Yogesh Shah, 48, emigrated to Hong Kong from here about 25 years ago after he failed to clear the SSC exam.He is now a diamond merchant heading a large business network spanning India,China,Belgium,Thailand,the US,Israel,Dubai,Russia,Far East and Middle East.
His accomplishments paved the way for him to become an advisory executive of the World Hindu Economic Forum.He is also the president of the Jain International Trade organizations branch for Far East and Southeast Asian countries,whose 12 member-countries include New Zealand and Australia.Shah has been the chairman of the Diamond and Jewellery Committee of the Indian Chamber of Commerce,Hong Kong,and is the current president of the Gujarat Samaj in Hong Kong.
Shah was recently in the city to receive the Visionary Award.After I failed the SSC exam,I joined the family business, he said.In 1988,I decided to visit Hong Kong to check possibilities for expansion.And lax business policies drove me to try my luck there. He said that owing to hard work and unwavering will to expand and settle down in Hong Kong,he was able to fulfill his dreams.Currently,I hold nine companies in Far East and in Southeast Asian countries, he said.I have set up various manufacturing units in India and China.I have established real estate ventures near my native place,Mehsana,and have recently taken over an IT company in Ahmedabad as the first step towards diversification. Shah has been making monthly visits to Shankheshwar for the past 14 years.I have an emotional bond with Mehsana and hence I have set up real estate ventures there, he said.I share spiritual connections with Shankheshwar and Ahmedabad teaches me business.Though I do not hold a single degree,I have successfully achieved my dreams because I worked hard with sincerity and faith.And that certainly pays off.
