Heat wave conditions prevail over northern parts of state; south to be squally.
Hot and squally weather divided the north and south regions of Gujarat on Tuesday as heat wave conditions prevailed over parts of north Gujarat even as the low pressure area over east central Arabian Sea persisted further. The state’s weather office continued its high temperature warning for parts of north Gujarat and Kutch for the next 48 hours and also issued a port warning noting that weather is predicted to turn squally in south Gujarat and its adjoining areas. Dr. Kamaljit Ray, director, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said, “While the high temperature warning for north Gujarat continues, a port warning for south Gujarat has been issued due to low pressure area over east central Arabian Sea. Due to this, squally weather would prevail in adjoining areas during the next 24 hours. Fishermen are advised not to go out to sea during next 24 hours.” The warning notes that wind speed will be 35 to 45 kmph from north-westerly direction and the speed in gust may temporarily reach 55 kmph. “IMD is keeping a close watch over the low pressure area which has not yet intensified to form a depression,” said Ray. The weather office has alerted that north-westerly wind at speeds of 15 to 20 knots would blow over north Gujarat coast, with isolated thundershowers. In south Gujarat coast, a port warning has been issued for fishermen as 20-25 knots speed wind with widespread rain is forecasted there. With this, the latest synoptic feature for the state is an associated upper air circulation extended up to mid tropospheric level and offshore trough from south Gujarat coast to Kerala still persists. Due to the latest synoptic situation, the city’s weather is forecasted to remain hot and partly cloudy with its maximum temperature around 43 dc.
