Atmospheric pre-monsoon activity that may bring scattered rain is noticed. Be ready for some surprise changes in the weather, as pre-monsoon scattered rains are likely to pour at various places in state including Ahmedabad, says the city’s weather office.
The few clouds hovering around the city’s sky may have left you wondering about the probability of an early monsoon onset. However, no early monsoon is expected, but premonsoon rains are certainly on the cards, says the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) city office. Dr. Kamaljit Ray, director, IMD, said, “There are chances of premonsoon scattered rains at various places in the state within the next few days. Such pre-monsoon scattered rains usually start a fortnight prior to the actual monsoons. However, they are not technically considered for forecasting monsoon onset.”
According to the latest climatic features, the weather office forecasts a possibility for scattered rains at various spots in the state that includes the city. The sky would remain partly clouded and there are chances of development of thunder clouds towards the evenings. With high incursion of about 72% moisture in the air, the city’s weather is expected to remain humid.
This year, due to moisture incursion from westerly winds, the city has also escaped the usual May heat wave. This year, during May which is generally associated with sizzling heat and mercury rising to 48 degrees Celsius or so, the average maximum temperature in the city has remained around 41 to 42 degrees C. With a milder start of below average maximum temperature of around 39 degrees, the maximum temperatures in the state for May have ranged around 40 to 42 C.
The hottest day of the month until now was May 20 when the temperature touched 43.4 degrees in the city and the hottest of May this year was May 16 for the state when the highest maximum temperature was noted at 43.8 C in Bhavnagar. This summer’s first heat wave hit the state on March 18, followed by the second one on March 26. The third heat wave of the season was on April 23, which extended till April 27. After that there has been no heat wave in May this year.
